Ah, Matt, I've learned long ago to appreciate that you're even getting a review at all.  I enjoy bad reviews when they're well written too.  You can't get too bent out of shape by reviewers, I've learned that by experience.  You spend too much time in this industry making connections -- don't let your ego get the best of you.  It's just not worth the brain damage.  Take it all with a grain of salt, and if you see a pattern established, take it as constructive criticism.  So far, I don't see a particular pattern of constructive criticism with the SubCulture reviews... most of them are pretty subjective regarding their personal tastes about the material and premise in general.  With "The Wang: The BIG One" I started to see a pattern of reviews that were generally negative about my lettering, so I changed it for the second GN.

Here's a link to the Savage Critic's author's earlier impressions of SubCulture that may raise your eyebrows: http://comicsworthreading.com/2006/10/02/subculture/

Look what I just found out!

SubCulture #4 Available in Online Store

At last, the dramatic conclusion is available in our online store, and available in stores December 12.  As a special offer to celebrate the release of all four issues, we're happy to offer, for a limited time, all four issues--the complete mini-series--for only $12.

This hot on the heels of the news that SubCulture was voted Best Romance Title by voters over at the Pop Chart at www.dimestoreproductions.com!

Woo hoo!  We made one of the two Indy books of 2007 at the Comic Fanatic!

http://www.thecomicfanatic.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1087&mode=thread&order=0&thold=-1

"SubCulture (Ape Entertainment) - One of the best stories I have read in years, SubCulture is a book like no other. No super-powered superheroes. No horror or sci-fi. Writer Kevin Freeman and artist Stan Yan's SubCulture is just a book about the all-too-real life of the comic book geek. Think "Clerks" for the comic book set, or "The Breakfast Club" for the comic book bunch. If you can't honestly see something of yourself somewhere in SubCulture, you must not be a true Comic Fanatic."

That's pretty cool, to not just be considered a great book, but to be one of the best of the year.  Congrat's Stan!

Here's some love for SubCulture at about the 1:15 mark on the Geeks Savants podcast: http://thegeeksavants.podbean.com/2008/05/04/episode-61-muy-grande-feces-en-el-bano/

Excellent review of the webstrip: http://www.artpatient.com/2008/11/09/subculture/

One of my favorite excerpts from the review:

"The ongoing storyline is not rushed and moves along nicely with no dead spots. There’s a certain respect for the characters and story that allows you to be content with the events shown.

I also liked the varied viewing angles and closeup expressions. It really drove home the clothing, personality and cleanliness of the cast and surroundings. I’d swear I can almost tell the cast apart by smell alone - not that I’d want to."
